With a goal of working not only hard, but "smart," The PaLC team forges alliances with key stakeholders, pooling resources to maximize the scope of impact.
American Partnership for Pets
www.americanpartnershipforpets.org
The new PaLC team has taken a leadership role in developing an unprecedented collaborative program "American Partnership for Pets" designed to speak with one voice on behalf of our nation's homeless pets. To kick-start the program, this exciting team will use the recently issued spay/neuter commemorative postage stamps to promote the health, behavioral and societal benefits of spay/neuter.
Animal Friendly License Plate (and other fundraising and pet population program) Resource and Review
Interested in finding sustainable funding sources for targeted pet population programs, the new PaLC team is working to research and analyze (among other programs) Animal Friendly License Plate programs in Virginia and around the country with the purpose of of making best practice recommendations for the programs.
Their new website also serves as a central information resource and collaborative forum for those interested in reviewing the existing programs and making best practice decisions for their own states.
To date, many states have passed "Animal Friendly" legislation or have speciality license plates laws, and several other states are on their way. In addition several states are starting to add state wide pet population programs, funded by dog license fees, and state check off programs.
These programs vary greatly by state, and it is important to define best practices to assist states in ensuring the success of existing or future AFLP and other state fundraising programs.
On the agenda also, is collecting the data required for in-depth analysis of the issues faced by their home state, Virginia.
And last, but not least the new team is preparing to focus on "broad and big picture" collaborative research and program development with a mission to humanely align the numbers of animals with demand, and ensure for them a lifetime of humane treatment.
